Receding gums caused by conditions such as gum disease and other oral issues aren’t just aesthetically unappealing. They can also cause pain as the gum roots get exposed to cold and hot fluids. These roots are also more susceptible to decay and may even result in tooth loss. Thankfully, here at Nicolas A. Ravon, DDS, MSD in Beverly Hills, California, Dr. Nicolas Ravon and his team can provide gum tissue transplant treatment to restore your smile.
Gum grafts can fully reverse the harmful symptoms of gum recession to restore your gums to a healthy, pink state. This means you can once again enjoy:
Receiving a gum graft can deliver benefits that last a lifetime with good oral hygiene practices.
During your initial consultation with Dr. Ravon, he will discuss three gum grafting techniques we offer for restoring your gums:
With a free gingival graft, we collect a whole graft from a donor site (typically from the top of your mouth) that includes the skin.
For the connective tissue graft, a graft is taken from the donor site. However, we focus on taking tissue from beneath the surface, allowing less disruption of the donor site tissue because your skin remains intact.
The local gum tissue is repositioned with a pedicle graft, so we move tissue around locally without needing a donor site.
Thankfully, all three gum graft procedures do not require you to take any time off from routine work except the day of your procedure. The grafting site may produce discomfort, and sometimes the donor site might cause pain. Thankfully, over-the-counter pain medications are sufficient to reduce this discomfort.
It’s best to avoid flossing and brushing at the graft site for a few weeks while eating only soft foods so your gums can heal properly.
