Dental Scholarship

Student debt is a major burden for young dentists, and we believe that it’s up to those of us who have established ourselves in the profession to help out those who are just beginning. That’s why Nicolas A. Ravon, DDS, MSD has decided to offer a scholarship to help dentists cover incidental expenses.

And don’t worry, the application process for this $500 scholarship isn’t like pulling teeth–it’s very easy.

How to Apply

The money is available for people who are planning to study dentistry and will use the funds to cover costs related to your education. In order to qualify, you must:

• Express interest in working in a dental field
• Be taking pre-dental classes in the semester you receive the scholarship
• Plan to apply to a dental school or already applied

A complete application includes:

• Application form
• 500-word essay
• Name, address, phone number, and other contact information
• The program where you are or will be enrolled

The essay should be on one of the two following subjects:

• The relationship of healthy gums to overall health
• The importance of an attractive smile

The overall quality of the essay matters, as does factual correctness, completeness, and style

Helping Students Thrive

Getting through dental school isn’t easy, but it’s also not the last challenge young dentists will face on their way to becoming contributing members of the dental community. Unfortunately, student debt can make it very hard for young people to succeed in their careers, and the effects are more than just financial.

A recent poll by Gallup and Purdue University, student debt has a profound impact on many aspects of a graduate’s life. The poll showed that those who had the highest levels of debt were less likely to be thriving and more likely to be struggling in almost all areas of life. They showed lower ratings for financial well-being (of course), but also for physical well-being, their sense of purpose, and even their sense of community.

We know our contribution is small, but we also know that every little bit helps a struggling student and if all dentists pitched in together the burden for new graduates would be much lighter.
