Oral surgery may be necessary for placing dental implants, evaluating or removing suspicious lesions in your mouth, or the extraction of teeth, including wisdom teeth. Periodontists have specialized training in conducting oral surgery procedures that involve the manipulation of your gums, jawbone, and other tissues, and may be more qualified to perform your procedure than a general dentist.

Implant Placement
Similar to our natural teeth, dental implants are anchored into their surrounding jaw bone. Once fully healed and integrated they can support various tooth replacement options such as crowns or bridges. The placement procedure is technically exacting but the result is a natural and undetectable tooth replacement that is easy to live with and aesthetically pleasing.
Oral Pathology/Biopsy
Complete identification and management of diseases of the mouth and surrounding areas including assessment and management of disease causes and effects, diagnosis using clinical, radiographic, microscopic, biochemical, and other examinations.
Oral Cancer Screening
A regular part of Nicolas A. Ravon, DDS, MSD’s preventative care program, oral cancer screening is looking for early and pre-symptomatic indicators of oral cancer for the earliest possible diagnosis and treatment. Successful diagnosis at this early stage makes the treatment much easier since by the time symptoms appear, cancer may have already begun to spread.
It is important to note that just because Dr. Ravon recommends a screening test; it does not necessarily mean anyone thinks you have cancer. We provide screening tests even when you have no symptoms. Only if the test results are abnormal might you need further diagnostic tests to determine with certainty if you do in fact have oral cancer.
Oral Surgery Extractions
A dental extraction is the removal of a tooth through oral surgery. Common reasons for tooth removal include decay or damage significant enough to render the tooth not restorable, impacted or problematic teeth, or to make space for orthodontic treatment.
There are two types of extractions:
Simple Extraction -Oral surgery is performed on teeth that are visible above the gum line.
Surgical Extraction – Oral surgery is performed on teeth that are not visible above the gum line or cannot easily be accessed, e.g. teeth that have broken under the gum line, have not erupted fully, or are impacted (such as wisdom teeth).
Wisdom Teeth Extraction in Beverly Hills
Wisdom teeth are a third set of molars that many people develop in their late teens or early twenties. When healthy and properly aligned they can be a valuable asset to the mouth but more often they are misaligned and require removal.
When misaligned, wisdom teeth can crowd or damage adjacent teeth, the jawbone, nerves, and make surrounding teeth more vulnerable to decay. Some wisdom teeth become entrapped completely (impacted) in the soft tissue or jawbone, or only partially erupt, making them very susceptible to decay and infection. In such cases, we may recommend extraction.
